Tonight is the night of the 2017 American Music Awards, and the evening is shaping up to be one of the biggest in music this year. The event is taking place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and is hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross. After announcing this year’s lineup of nominees last month, fans have been voting for their favorites to take home a trophy in categories ranging from Artist of the Year and Video of the Year to Favorite Song in a variety of genres!
Despite featuring an overwhelmingly male list of nominees, a slew of pop’s leading ladies are slated to take the stage. Pink and Kelly Clarkson are opening the show with a duet, and Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera and Selena Gomez will also deliver performances. Although Lady Gaga will not be present, she will beam in for a performance of “The Cure.” K-Pop kings BTS will also make their debut performance at an American awards show, and Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes and many more will perform some of their biggest hits.
The legendary Diana Ross will receive a Lifetime Achievement award and will take the stage to perform at some point during the event. Bruno Mars is leading the field of nominees with 8 nods including recognition in the Artist of the Year and Video of the Year categories. He will be competing against the likes of The Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran, Drake and Kendrick Lamar for some of the highest honors of the evening. Meanwhile, Julia Michaels is the sole female facing off for the title of New Artist of the Year against the likes of Niall Horan, James Arthur, Post Malone and Rae Sremmurd. As one of the few female nominees in a sea of male talent, the prolific writer turned solo star may end up walking off with a trophy of her own.
All will be revealed in time. While we wait for the show to start, reacquaint yourself with the nominees here and check back throughout the night to find out who won what. We’ll be updating the winners list (below) in real time.
