Camila Cabello is making moves for a pop takeover, and she will settle for no less. The 20-year-old diva has enjoyed a banner year as she embarked on the journey to solo stardom. With breakout success within reach, the former Fifth Harmony member documents her ambitions on her newest song, “Crown.” Released today (December 14), the moody track is a collaboration with production duo Grey for the soundtrack to Netflix’s Bright. Unsurprisingly, it is a certified bop that sees the hitmaker getting a little competitive.
“Baby on fire. I see you when I close my eyes. I think it’s time, a kingdom that is mine,” she declares over an atmospheric production. The “Crying in the Club” siren shows off the full range of her vocals including her feathery high notes, but the lyrics are even more telling. “I’m running for the crown. I’m coming for the crown,” she confidently announces. Grey props up the fierce lyrics with an equally commanding production complete with thrilling beat drops and extended breaks.
Although it seems unlikely that “Crown” will receive an official single treatment, it is yet another evocative release from the budding pop princess. With “Havana” still burning up the charts and a pair of new promo tracks off her debut album including her next single “Never Be The Same,” she is giving fans a lot to be thankful for this month. Her Grey collaboration will help her close out the year on a high point as she gears up to release the entirety of her debut album in January. Give Camilla’s latest a spin below!
