Dua Lipa caught lightning in a bottle with “New Rules,”storming the charts around the globe with her break-up advice set to music. A major part of the song’s appeal lies in the brilliant video, which elevates the humble girls’ night (or day) into an art form. It goes without saying that expectations are high for her next single. “IDGAF” covers the same subject matter as “New Rules,” but the tone is decidedly more emo and that is reflected in the striking Henry Scholfield-directed video.
“We wanted to embody the sense of empowerment in the track, whilst going beyond the literal breakup context,” the director reveals. He did that by visualizing the diva’s internal struggle. “This video is about your stronger and weaker side fighting with each other only to realize that self-love is what will help you overcome any negativity that comes your way,” Dua elaborates. “IDGAF” has already racked up 45 million streams of Spotify and is destined to blow up even further when the visual inevitably goes viral. Watch up top.
