It wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift release without a messy backstory. The 27-year-old rolled out a single called “Gorgeous” last night (October 19), which is a bubbly pop song about wanting to cheat while you’re in a relationship. And it didn’t take fans long to decipher the lyrics and conclude that Taylor is singing about her break-up with Calvin Harris. “I got a boyfriend, he’s older than us,” she chirps in an early verse. “He’s in the club doing I don’t know.” (Possibly being the world’s highest-paid DJ?)
“You’re so gorgeous, I can’t say anything to your face,” the hitmaker sings on the chorus. “‘Cause look at your face and I’m so furious at you for making me feel this way.” I really don’t care about Taylor’s love life or her multiple feuds, but I’m starting to fear for her Reputation. While better than “Look What You Made Me Do” and “… Ready For It,” this is the diva’s third lackluster single in a row. Where is the innate pop sensibility of Red and the undeniable hooks of 1989? Certainly not on display in the track below.
