Harry Styles has selected “Two Ghosts” as the second single from his solo debut, and to celebrate he is sharing a live performance of the song with fans. The performance was shot in London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios and was included in the Apple Music-exclusive documentary Harry Styles: Behind the Album. It will also appear alongside nine other performances on the forthcoming Behind the Album: The Performances. The somber ballad about two lovers going their separate ways received a fitting performance, as Harry strummed along on his guitar with the support of a full band. His voice soared over the instrumentation and managed to resonate with hope for a better future apart from his beloved.
“Two Ghosts” has the potential to become a massive hit as the summer heat cools down. Despite receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike, the project’s lead single “Sign Of The Times” felt a little too experimental to find enduring success on pop radio. The rock-hopping anthem went top 10 in the US and dethroned the inescapable “Shape of You” from the top spot in the UK, but it came and went just as fast. “Two Ghosts” is a continuation of the sound but makes some concessions (including a significantly shorter run time) that could help it find more staying power. After a season of dancing along to “Despacito,” pop music usually slows down the beats per minute in preparation for winter, and the UK crooner’s latest will do well on pop radio in that climate.
