The most exciting musical reinvention of 2018 is James Bay 2.0. The Brit, who broke big with bluesy rock anthems like “Let It Go” and “Hold Back The River,” switches his acoustic guitar for sexy synths on “Wild Love” — an ’80s-inspired soul song with shades of early Prince. “I know some of this new sound was not apparent on my first album… but I think my new music helps to paint a fuller picture of who I am,” the 27-year-old explained. “As soon as I recognized I was being pinned down as ‘the intimate acoustic guitar guy’ I realized I knew I had to push myself musically.”
It turns out James not only overhauled his sound, but also his general aesthetic. The video for “Wild Love” drops today and it’s a sleek and sexy adventure that takes place in a club — a venue you wouldn’t associate with anything from Chaos And The Calm. As for the plot? The crooner makes eyes with Stranger Things actress Natalia Dyer while butterflies hover over head. “It was such a pleasure to work with Natalia on the ‘Wild Love’ set,” he enthuses. “She’s a lovely person, a huge talent and it was great hanging with her while making this video.” Watch up top.
