“White Mustang” is perhaps the quintessentially Lana Del Rey cut on Lust For Life. A moody anthem about a groupie falling in and out of love with a musician, the song explores some of the hitmaker’s favorite themes (obsession, fame and despair) through a very modern lens. The same can be said of the video, which dropped this morning. The striking visual, which documents LDR’s affair with a long-haired lover, begins with shadowy embrace in a Hollywood Hills mansion, before taking to the streets of Los Angeles.
We then see how they came together — all it took was a cheeky kiss — and moments from their courtship. The video turns on its head, however, when a nuclear warhead explodes overhead. It’s certainly an issue that weighs heavily on Lana’s mind. “I know that we’re living in a New Age with new nuclear abilities,” she tweeted last week. “I hope each country can find a way to communicate before things escalate.” Leave it to the “Love” diva to tackle a serious world issue in the most artistic and depressingly romantic way possible. Watch up top.
