One of the new releases that got lost in the rush of New Music Friday (for me, at least) was the video for Jake Bugg and Noah Cyrus’ “Waiting.” A highlight of the British alt-rocker’s recent Hearts That Strain album, the duet has a raw soulfulness that stands out among the gentle Americana of songs like “How Soon The Dawn” and “Southern Rain.” That quality is captured perfectly by the black-and-white visual, which was filmed at Skinny’s Lounge — a classic diva bar in Los Angeles.
The concept couldn’t be more simple. It’s just Jake and Noah at a piano, performing the song. However, the clip is lit like a film noir from the ’40s and both artists shine in the stylish surroundings. The “Make Me (Cry)” diva is really on tear — following up her breakthrough hit with underrated summer anthem “Stay Together” and XXXTENTACION-assisted banger “Again.” This duet shows off another facet of her talent and is yet another reason to get excited for her upcoming debut LP, NC-17. Watch up top.
