Earlier this week, city officials in Phoenix excitedly revealed design plans for a renovation of Margaret T. Hance Park — only to have to issue a retraction once they discovered it featured a hidden Drake meme.
Drake (né Aubrey Graham) notably got his start acting in Canadian teen series Degrassi: The Next Generation as Jimmy Brooks, a character who became paralyzed after a school shooting. A promotional photo of Drake as Jimmy sitting and smiling in a wheelchair has since become a meme around the web.
A hawkeyed Reddit user noticed the image of Drake sitting right in the middle of the park’s design sketch, which prompted officials to remove it from their website and social media accounts. A new sketch — minus the meme — has since been posted online.
This is the second time that Wheelchair Jimmy has appeared in a park design rendering: Last fall, the image appeared in a New York City Parks Department proposal for accessibility updates in Fort Green Park — only that time, the meme was included intentionally.
