Queen Latifah Receives Honorary Doctorate From Rutgers University
On Monday Morning (May 14) rap and acting veteran Queen Latifah was presented with an honorary doctorate from Rutgers University. Latifah took to social media to share her excitement, “say hello to the Honorary Dr. Dana Owens,” she wrote on Twitter. “Thank you, Rutgers University and congratulations, to all of the graduates of the class of 2018!”
In a separate post on Instagram the “U.N.I.T.Y.” rapper is seen giving the graduating class’s commencement speech and honoring her hometown. “New Jersey’s own Dr Dana Owens,” she wrote. “It’s lessons here at home that made me who I am,” Latifah said during her speech. “You may not realize it today, but you will over time that the love you find in family in every size, shape and makeup is a powerful teacher.” In addition, Latifah also announced that she is slated to perform at the New Orleans Essence Festival for the first time this year.
