Shawn Mendes is getting conceptual in his “In My Blood” video. The 19-year-old rolled out a visual in support of the sweeping, stadium rock-inspired track today (April 24), and it is a simple but effective affair. In it, he performs the single while lying on the ground as the seasons pass him by. He is bombarded with snow and rain but remains resolutely in place. After weathering the storms, the crooner is rewarded with a respite as a field of flowers bloom underneath him. The visual is a little artier than we are used to from him, but it is sure to spark conversations. And with any luck, he will also roll out a more cinematic visual in support of his companion single, “Lost In Japan.”It is practically begging for an international love story similar to his “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” treatment after all.
Promo seems to be picking up for “In My Blood” as we move into the spring. After premiering the earnest anthem last month he made a handful of late night appearances. Buoyed by those and some impressive streaming numbers (81 million and counting on Spotify to be exact), the track peaked just outside the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Last week the hitmaker brought his promo tour across the pond. He performed at Queen Elizabeth’s birthday and also made a pitstop at BBC’s Radio 1 where he performed the single and put his own spin on Post Malone’s “Psycho.”
This May he is also scheduled to take the stage at the Billboard Music Awards alongside the likes of Camila Cabello and Dua Lipa. With the video’s release and his recent appearances, Shawn is bound to see a boost on the charts in the coming weeks. With any luck the hitmaker will be able to net fourth top 10 in the US. Watch his new visual up top!
