While most o you were watching Hairspray Live! on Wednesday night (Dec. 7), Jennifer Lopez was already gearing up for NBC’s next musical, Bye Bye Birdie Live! Lopez tweeted out a tease of her role in the remake of the 1950s-set musical in which she’ll play Rose «Rosie» Alvarez halfway through the East Coast Hairspraybroadcast.
The singer’s involvement in the Elvis-inspired show was announced in October. Broadway star Harvey Fierstein — who adapted and starred in Hairspray Live! — will also adapt Bye Bye Birdie for the small screen. The teaser said the musical is slated to run next December on NBC.
«She came to us and said, ‘I love this movie and I’d love to do it,'» NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said in October, adding that Lopez performs the song «Lot of Livin'» from the musical in her Las Vegas show. “Broadway musicals and films fueled my childhood and Bye Bye Birdie was one of my favorites. I’m proud to be a part of the NBC family with Shades of Blue and I thought it would be a blast to take on one of their big live musicals,» Lopez said in a statement.
