After Kanye West claimed that George Floyd died from drug abuse, the African-American’s family plans a lawsuit against the rapper.
Kanye West continues to generate controversy.
Through a controversial appearance on the Drink Champs podcast, the ‘Gold Digger’ performer pointed out that George Floyd, who became a standard-bearer for the Black Lives Matter movement, died from fentanyl abuse and not from asphyxiation stemming from pressure exerted on his neck and back by former police officer Derek Chauvin.
«It wasn’t even on his neck,» West expressed in reference to the fact that Chauvin’s knee was not squeezing Floyd hard enough to end his life.
Following the rapper’s controversial statements, it has come to light that George Floyd’s family is considering a lawsuit against Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband.
George Floyd’s family to sue Kanye West after controversial statements about his death
The possible complaint was made known through a tweet from civil rights activist and attorney Lee Merritt, who expressed that the rapper’s comments about the cause of Floyd’s death affected the African-American’s family.
«While, you can’t defame the dead, George Floyd’s family is considering suing over Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death. Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl and not from criminally and civilly established brutality undermines and diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.» he expressed.
George Floyd died on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 56 from police brutality by former police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on his back and neck for more than eight minutes.
