Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney’s engagement is off.
The former couple, who began dating in 2011 after meeting on the set of Gaga’s «Yoü and I» music video, have called it quits, sources tell E! News. The breakup comes after months of speculation that the «Poker Face» singer, 30, and the Chicago Fire actor, 35, were on the outs.
«They want to keep it private,» an insider says. «It’s heartbreaking.»
Last week—on Kinney’s birthday—Gaga was photographed without her engagement ring. When she performed at an orphanage in Mexico earlier this week, the ring was again missing. Neither Gaga nor Kinney has commented on the matter, and it’s unclear who initiated the split.
From the beginning, though, it was obvious the pair shared a deep and meaningful connection. «When you meet someone that’s not intimidated by the amazing people that are around you [or] by the love that you receive—that’s love,» Gaga told Fashion magazine in 2013. «Men weren’t always happy for me. It was very challenging to watch a woman be so successful.»
Kinney was The One, according to Gaga. «I really can’t imagine being with anyone other than who I’m with right now,» the Golden Globe winner told Howard Stern in a December 2014 SiriusXM interview. «He is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it.»
The pair’s relationship only deepened in the following years. To Gaga’s surprise and delight, Kinney proposed on Valentine’s Day in 2015 with a heart-shaped diamond ring. Three months later, Gaga told Women’s Wear Daily that she was looking for a wedding dress with her fiancé in mind. «It will be totally for Taylor. It’s all about my man,» the Grammy winner revealed. «I haven’t really thought about anything specific yet, but whatever it is, it will be totally for him.»
