The DJs’ new track «Shed a Light» debuts. Plus, chart action for Flume, Alesso & Tony Moran.
The superstar DJ pairing of Robin Schulz and David Guetta yields the Hot Shot Debut on Billboard‘s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Dec. 17), as «Shed a Light,» featuring DJ trio Cheat Codes, starts at No. 11. «Light» launches with 1.5 million U.S. streams (with 70 percent coming from Spotify) in the tracking week ending Dec. 1, according to Nielsen Music.
Boasting first-week digital sales of 11,000, the collab also soars onto Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales at No. 4.
«Light» is the 21st charted title for Guetta since the Jan. 26, 2013, inception of Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, pushing him past Calvin Harris (20) and into sole possession of third place among all acts; Skrillex leads with 25, while Avicii follows with 24. «Light» is the sixth chart hit each for Schulz and Cheat Codes.
FLUME SHOWS MORE ‘SKIN’: Flume (real name Harley Streten) floats in at No. 3 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums with Skin Companion EP I (sold 2,000). Meanwhile, the Australian DJ’s former No. 1 full-length, Skin, finds its way back to the top 10 (13-10). On Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, two of Companion‘s four tracks crack the list: «Trust,» featuring vocals from Isabella Manfredi (No. 34), and «Heater» (No. 44). Flume’s first hit, the No. 3-peaking «Never Be Like You,» featuring Kai, remains on the songs list for a 45th week (rising 10-9).
Flume finished Billboard‘s 2016 chart year as the No. 1 new Dance/Electronic artistand the No. 5 act in the genre overall.
UP & ‘AWAY’: Alesso surges to his fifth consecutive and sixth overall top 10 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with «Take My Breath Away» (12-9). It’s also the first unaccompanied top 10 for the Swedish DJ, whose sole other solo entry, «Tear the Roof Up,» hit a No. 21 ceiling in August 2014.
MORAN RULES CLUBS: Tony Moran marches to his fifth No. 1 on Dance Club Songs with «Say Yes,» featuring Jason Walker (3-1). It’s the fourth leader for Walker and the second straight with Moran: The DJ and vocalist first paired at the summit with «So Happy» in June. Remixes from Moto Blanco, Victor Dinaire & Bissen and Alex Acosta, among a plethora of others, helped the song reign.
Moran, whose chart history dates back 25 years to 1991’s No. 30 hit «Same Sun Same Sky,» tells Billboard exclusively of his latest achievement, «Thank you to DJs and everyone who has been supporting ‘Say Yes,’ and also to the team of remixers who put their own special touch on each version. You each lit up the dance floor with this one.» Moran went on to compliment his partner in hit-making Walker, saying, «I love being part of an independent label because I know that I am giving it all I’ve got with my team. We are passionate, motivated and honored to have reached the top spot.»
Adds Walker about the independent Sugar House/Jason Walker/Mr. Tanman release, «Tony and I are over-the-moon happy about ‘Say Yes’ and the love it’s receiving. All that we can say is, wow! The music business establishment is large, powerful and often times makes it hard for people to spot the indie guys. But when something amazing like this happens, we don’t feel so invisible.»
