Zayn Malik won’t be taking the stage in October.
Six months after the debut of his first solo album, the former One Direction member has canceled his upcoming appearance at the Autism Rocks Arena in Dubai on Oct. 7 due to his continuing struggle with extreme anxiety. While the 23 year old says he is making progress, Malik does not feel prepared to face an audience in a month.
«I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances,» Malik began in a statement to fans. «I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.»
Additionally, the «Pillowtalk» singer assured all ticket holders that purchases will be refunded. «I am truly sorry to disappoint you. I hope to see you all soon,» he concluded. «Thank you to all my fans who support me globally.»

«Unfortunately, my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me,» he wrote to fans on Twitter at the time. «I cannot apologize enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me. I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today.»

«Those who can find compassion now are the ones that deserve to watch you continue to grow. We are all here to support you and make each experience easier. Your talent and good heart will never lead you wrong.»
